Don't expect a 'serious' Holmes movie. This is more of an affectionate pastiche. Baker St never looked more beautiful on screen, and it's a pity more wasn't made of such a wonderful set. With his wavy hair and nasal drawl, Robert Stephens' Holmes is more akin to Oscar Wilde than the great detective. Colin Blakely is a rather excitable Dr Watson. It's left to Christopher Lee to give the best performance in the film as Holmes' brother, Mycroft....
